Halal restaurant in Alsace: L’Épicurien in Strasbourg

L’Épicurien welcomes you at 9 rue de Berne in Strasbourg for a meal as a couple, with family or with friends. We serve lunch from Monday to Friday and dinner every day. On Saturdays and Sundays, we open for dinner only, from 6:30 pm. Check the current menu and prices before you book your table.

Alsace, a land of livestock that we forget

When we talk about Alsatian gastronomy, we think of the dishes. Rarely of the animals. That’s a shame, because the Rhine plain and the Vosges valleys have for centuries fed herds whose reputation far exceeded the region.

The Simmental is one of them. A dual-purpose breed, long raised for both milk and meat, it produces dense, tight-grained meat with that almost sweet finish that is found nowhere else. The first time I tasted it, I realized that Alsace had something else to offer on the plate besides its classic dishes.

Halal and terroir do not contradict each other

I have often been told that one has to choose: the local or the halal. That is not true, and in our case it is actually the opposite.

Working exclusively in halal requires tracing each batch, knowing the slaughterhouse, the dates, the entire process. This requirement forces us to a level of knowledge that many tables do not have regarding their own supply. Adam, our butcher since the opening, knows exactly where each batch he delivers comes from. He has already cancelled deliveries because one persill was not to his liking.

Religious rigor has become a profession. It has not cost us in quality: it has made us better.

What is on the menu

The Simmental Alsacien for the terroir. The Angus fillet, Finely ground, almost buttery, served raw. The’rib eye and the faux-filet, More pronounced, with that toasted hazelnut flavor when the fat caramelizes on the griddle. And the Charolais beef steak, under protected geographical indication, cut into a room and shared between two people.

All mature for at least ten days in a cold room, between 1 and 3 °C. The enzymes relax the fibers, the water evaporates, the flavor concentrates. It takes a long time, it costs a lot of weight, so it’s a non-negotiable price.

The addition of Cordon bleu with smoked halal turkey ham, prepared here, including the breadcrumbs — a dish that reassures children and surprises parents.

The unlimited carpaccio, our signature

He was born in 1950 in Harry’s Bar in Venice, Giuseppe Cipriani cut the raw beef into slices and named it after a Venetian painter obsessed with reds. He had imagined it for a client to whom his doctor had forbidden cooked meat.

Our all-you-can-eat beef carpaccio is available at every service. It is made with beef from France and served with basil pesto, balsamic vinegar, lemon and parmesan. See the available options and side dishes on our menu.

Coming from all over Alsace

We are at 9 rue de Berne, just a stone’s throw from Gutenberg Square and Place d’Austerlitz, in the very center of Strasbourg. Convenient for those arriving from Colmar, Sélestat, Haguenau or Mulhouse: you park once, you walk, you dine without rushing.

For those who wish, the card offers Wines of Alsace. For the others, and there are many of them, we offer non-alcoholic beverages: cold infusions, pressed juices, homemade flavored waters. A slightly smoky iced black tea stands up to a steak without overpowering it.

Is the entire map halal?

Yes, without exception, including poultry charcuterie. No pork products are used in the kitchen.

Do I have to book when I’m coming from far away?

Absolutely, especially on weekends. Stop by Online booking or call +33 9 79 01 28 81.

Is there enough to make a family meal?

Yes, families are welcome. Please tell us the number of guests when booking. On Sundays, service starts at 6:30 pm; we do not serve lunch.
